Adam Shilling - another True Fan - is planning a multiplayer online game based on the [[GVCS]] as the inspiration for its connection to the real world. Adam is going to South America to meet real people – to assess the needs of real communities. The project will link gaming to the real world – where money exchanged ends up purchasing things like tractors or renewable energy equipment for villages in South America.

I think this is one of the most potentially world-changing ideas that can come out of internet culture, as applied to the real world. We were convinced that virtual reality games can indeed have a profound, positive effect on reality. I feel that your organizational vision aligns very much with my own values as well as the volunteer work I am currently doing for Open Source Ecology. Have you heard of us? I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

Please advise.

I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

Please advise.

I feel that your organizational vision aligns very much with my own values as well as the volunteer work I am currently doing for Open Source Ecology. Have you heard of us? I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

Please advise.

I feel that your organizational vision aligns very much with my own values as well as the volunteer work I am currently doing for Open Source Ecology. Have you heard of us? We are building, what we call, the Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) – a set of 40 open source machines meant to jump-start community resilience and lower the barriers-to-entry.

The machines are being built and shared via open source methods, so we can freely provide the information and plans necessary to build resilient communities from the ground up. I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

I support OSE because both the model and the elements add some important missing pieces to what I perceive is going on.
* I think it's important to have local possibilities for water, food and energy everywhere. Not just at the household level but more importantly at the village or more aggregated levels. Even if you end up buying stuff from elsewhere, it's best if that happens by choice, not by necessity. It was not by choice when things were local by default and it's not by choice now that things are global by default.

As our resource pool dwindles globally, largely due to corporate theft and errant industrial practices, we will have to produce locally and 'in-source'. We must ignore our propagandized 'reality' and create a meaningful existence together.
With drastically increasing populations (estimated 70 million per year), we must teach ourselves the merits of collaboration, co-housing, and SHARING. My opinion is the era of individualized ownership is archaic and ill-advised. Only by sharing and producing what we actually need, and sharing what we already have (be it skills, books, resources etc.), will we experience the next stage of cultural progress. I found out about Open Source Ecology after watching the Zeitgeist Addendum movie. That movie sparkled my curiosity and I started a quest to understand the problems and possible solutions to our society's needs.

In this quest, I found out some very exciting ideas, groups and people, like the Transition Towns movement (concerned with peak oil), The Venus Project and RBE Foundation (moneyless, cybernated society), Common Good Bank (alternative currency system), RepRap (self-replicating, open source 3D printer), the P2P Foundation, and the OSE site, to name a few.

You may have noticed that all these projects and movements seem to have a common goal, they all seem to propose that we forget all artificial limitations (and scarcity) and we all seek union to improve our lives and sustainability. Without artificial limitations, we all can have much much better lives. That's the message I can hear all these people and movements resounding.

I'd say that The Venus Project champions ideas, whereas OSE materializes them, performing concrete actions that will move our world forward.

I'm confident that our small contributions to this cause will add up and have a tremendous positive result for everybody.

I have come to the Open Source Ecology, from the Zeitgeist movement and see this as a natural transition from something quite absurd to a more practical way to live our lives. By doing nothing we have allowed this silly profit system overrule common sense and go so viral as to be totally dysfunctional. Society spends all of its time solving problems that are symptomatic and never go any deeper to find causal remedy.

The fact that people can earn money without actually contributing anything of substance is an unbelievable waste of potential usefulness. 80% of the population do this while fiddling the figures, they are totally consumed. Imagine if that problem solving potential was put to good use.

As a musician I find it an incredible distraction living in a society that has not, after 5000 years of civilisation, actually become civilised yet. A lot of the mental energy that I need to improve myself as a musician is wasted basically trying to survive. I have learned to live off the smell of an oily rag, and my priority is improving myself to the detriment of living comfort, and that is because society does not work efficiently.

I see Open source Ecology as the first rung in the ladder to improving all that ails the world. The important thing to mention here is the fact that everything that each individual knows is the collection of their experience of everyone else around them, so they have no right to exclusivity and have a duty to share. There is no reason why all land and resources should not benefit all people. The understanding of this will eliminate all the unnecessary conflict that we have today. The challenge is to put it into practice for the greater good without sacrificing the individual. This will happen when we share the workload and become responsible.

Fulfilment in life comes from hands on achievement and when everybody is contributing instead of building locks and walls while fiddling figures, I bet we have a much more harmonious and luxurious lifestyle without the fear. The real challenges will be then what will affect us all as a human species, rather than just individual survival.

So thank you Open Source Ecology for putting the wheels in motion of the ground-up transition to self-sustaining systems open for the improvement of all who contribute, not just those who wish to profit and exploit.

I support OSE because both the model and the elements add some important missing pieces to what I perceive is going on.
* I think it's important to have local possibilities for water, food and energy everywhere. Not just at the household level but more importantly at the village or more aggregated levels. Even if you end up buying stuff from elsewhere, it's best if that happens by choice, not by necessity. It was not by choice when things were local by default and it's not by choice now that things are global by default.

As our resource pool dwindles globally, largely due to corporate theft and errant industrial practices, we will have to produce locally and 'in-source'. We must ignore our propagandized 'reality' and create a meaningful existence together.
With drastically increasing populations (estimated 70 million per year), we must teach ourselves the merits of collaboration, co-housing, and SHARING. My opinion is the era of individualized ownership is archaic and ill-advised. Only by sharing and producing what we actually need, and sharing what we already have (be it skills, books, resources etc.), will we experience the next stage of cultural progress. I found out about Open Source Ecology after watching the Zeitgeist Addendum movie. That movie sparkled my curiosity and I started a quest to understand the problems and possible solutions to our society's needs.

In this quest, I found out some very exciting ideas, groups and people, like the Transition Towns movement (concerned with peak oil), The Venus Project and RBE Foundation (moneyless, cybernated society), Common Good Bank (alternative currency system), RepRap (self-replicating, open source 3D printer), the P2P Foundation, and the OSE site, to name a few.

You may have noticed that all these projects and movements seem to have a common goal, they all seem to propose that we forget all artificial limitations (and scarcity) and we all seek union to improve our lives and sustainability. I'd say that The Venus Project champions ideas, whereas OSE materializes them, performing concrete actions that will move our world forward.

I have come to the Open Source Ecology, from the Zeitgeist movement and see this as a natural transition from something quite absurd to a more practical way to live our lives. By doing nothing we have allowed this silly profit system overrule common sense and go so viral as to be totally dysfunctional. Society spends all of its time solving problems that are symptomatic and never go any deeper to find causal remedy.

The fact that people can earn money without actually contributing anything of substance is an unbelievable waste of potential usefulness. 80% of the population do this while fiddling the figures, they are totally consumed. Imagine if that problem solving potential was put to good use.

As a musician I find it an incredible distraction living in a society that has not, after 5000 years of civilisation, actually become civilised yet. A lot of the mental energy that I need to improve myself as a musician is wasted basically trying to survive. I have learned to live off the smell of an oily rag, and my priority is improving myself to the detriment of living comfort, and that is because society does not work efficiently.

I see Open source Ecology as the first rung in the ladder to improving all that ails the world. The important thing to mention here is the fact that everything that each individual knows is the collection of their experience of everyone else around them, so they have no right to exclusivity and have a duty to share. There is no reason why all land and resources should not benefit all people. The understanding of this will eliminate all the unnecessary conflict that we have today. The challenge is to put it into practice for the greater good without sacrificing the individual. This will happen when we share the workload and become responsible.

Fulfilment in life comes from hands on achievement and when everybody is contributing instead of building locks and walls while fiddling figures, I bet we have a much more harmonious and luxurious lifestyle without the fear. The real challenges will be then what will affect us all as a human species, rather than just individual survival.

So thank you Open Source Ecology for putting the wheels in motion of the ground-up transition to self-sustaining systems open for the improvement of all who contribute, not just those who wish to profit and exploit.

I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

Please advise.

I feel that your organizational vision aligns very much with my own values as well as the volunteer work I am currently doing for Open Source Ecology. Have you heard of us? We are building, what we call, the Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) – a set of 40 open source machines meant to jump-start community resilience and lower the barriers-to-entry.

Most people are on the verge of understanding what sustainable implies: maintain the current state of affairs by not compromising the future. Simple enough. Regenerative is to be sustainable to the point where we are repairing the world—healing the damage, giving back, revitalizing our ecology. It's like sustainability + 1. Interestingly enough, what we are talking about is even further down the road: resiliency. Resiliency is inclusive of the regenerative concept, but includes a level of adaptability. That is, adaptability and certainty in the face of an uncertain world. When we apply these concepts to community, wonderful things happen.

Our method is open source. We see open source as a combination of process and ideas, where everything is shared freely in the public domain. Anyone has access. Anyone can change the plans to suit their personal locale and interests. And everyone is encouraged to participate, build, critique, and share. Thus by open sourcing the entire production life-cycle—from designs and assembly to putting the machine together—we are able to quickly develop solutions. And openness is more than just a process for us, we believe in openness as an ideology of transformation. Imagine the knowledge necessary for advanced civilization available to everyone, not just a limited few; we could then truly evolve to freedom.

Of course, we operate under the understanding that nature provides an abundance: abundance of energy, abundance of resources, and abundance of possibilities to live prosperously. We need not make sacrifices in quality of life to move beyond our destructive industrial systems, nor is it our agenda to perpetuate the prevailing scarcity driven system. Instead we strive to become producers of our own destiny rather than consumers of its ghostly shell.

We are at the initial stages of our experiment. We have 8 prototypes, 1 full product release, and 32 more machines to develop. However, we have already demonstrated that parts, motors, and even power units may be interchanged between different machines—like a Lego set for real construction—thereby producing an unprecedented level of ecological integration. Plug-and-play modularity and interoperability are paramount leading to all of our products being built to last (lifetime design), easy to service (design-for-disassembly), as well as simplicity by desig. Once completed, the GVCS can replicate itself entirely: imagine Lego sets that can build more Lego sets!—no doubt a dream of mine as a child! In this limit, we aim to show that we can even produce aluminum (or other metals) from clay, or silicon from sand on a local level—a matter of Knowledge and Power. I just saw this email and I really like the idea of the Global Village Construction Set.

I think that the GVCS and the inclusion of Open Source is a real game changer.

I recently fabricated an electric auger that I successfully used for a Geothermal Heat Pump. You might be interested.

I also have successfully re-purposed a small dehumidifier into a very efficient heat pump. Again, you might be interested.

I looked at the Power Cube, great idea!

I wasn't able to find any drawings or construction details, which I assume would be fundamental to the Open Source concept.

Please advise.

Thank you for contacting the Global Ecovillage Network. I looked at your website and agree that your mission closely aligns with that of our network. GEN does not currently have a set membership but each region disperses information in their own way, so I am copying your message to the GEN Board of Directors (that represent each of the GEN regions) so that they might get to know your group and the effort you all have set out to accomplish.

I recently stumbled upon your initiative at http://gen.ecovillage.org and I wholeheartedly agree with your efforts to bring people together around transition, community resilience and ecology. I feel that your organizational vision aligns very much with my own values as well as the volunteer work I am currently doing for Open Source Ecology. Have you heard of us? We are building, what we call, the Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) – a set of 40 open source tools meant to jump-start community resilience and lower the barriers-to-entry.

The tools are being built and shared via open source methods, so we can freely provide the information necessary to build resilient communities from the ground up. We are 100% crowd-funded by supporters, which we call True Fans. This is our latest video showcasing the GVCS, which was created by a True Fan: http://vimeo.com/16106427

We would be grateful if you could pass our work on to your membership, partners and friends, and encourage them to support and collaborate with us. We are also interested in speaking engagements. The commitment of as few as three new True Fans is enough to fund a trip for guest speaking or a presentation. This November we will be on a tour in California to present our vision and progress to several Transition Town initiatives.
