In a nutshell

AgroSense (formerly called Cloudfarming) is a modular, decision making support system for the agricultural market, built around the geographical location of your farm.

http://www.agrosense.nl

AgroSense is a rich client platform which provides a highly modular farm management system.

Agriculture is rapidly becoming a very data intensive industry. A multitude of agriculture specialities is needed to transform all this data into useful farm management information, which can lead to higher productivity, less use of pesticides etc.. Specific agricultural knowledge is often owned by small companies, not capable of developing an overall competative farm management system.

AgroSense provides an opensource module framework in which modules from several sources are combined into one integrated farm management system. Modules can be provided by governmental departments, universities or commercial businesses. Some will be free of charge, while some others will require some form of payment. In the end the farmer decides which modules contribute to his business.
*Name - Stephan Schildberg
*Location (city, country) - The Netherlands
*Contact Information (email, skype, phone) - schildberg at scoid.de
*Introduction Video -
*Resume/CV - designer, farmer

WHY are you motivated to support/develop this work?
*Do you support open source culture?
Yes.

*Why are you interested in collaborating with us?
Investments into OSE will hopefully still valuable in times ahead of us. OSE as a model of economy can be far more comprehensible for many more people. OSE is solution focused.
I like the live style of working on the countryside, with like-minded peers on technologies.

*How do you think that the GVCS and Open Source Hardware can address pressing world issues?
It will accelerate the start of small scale farming, which itself can be freeing for some. Understanding and being capable of modifying the tools one uses, with the background of a community to ask, makes work easier and live more beautiful. More time left for (personal) development.

*What do you like in OSE Europe?
The regional diversity of mentalities, cultures and approaches of thinking. The different climate zones and topographies will lead to a broad variety of different answers to one question.

*What should happen so that you become more involved with OSE Europe?
I have to finish my farming training.

*What is missing in OSE Europe?
Places. The right time given, they will pop on the maps, one after the other.
Low energy impact concepts of cooling + refrigeration, to survive food from harvest to winter.

*What are your suggestions for improvement in OSE Europe?
I see it sprouting, but it would be nice to have a printed A7-flyer to show around.

WHAT are your skills?
*List all of your skills in these areas, at what level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and where did you practice them:
**Communications - developed together with a friend the idea and initiative of the "green internet", data centres powered by renewables. We were very successful in Germany. (> ecologee.net)
**Organizational - for an event of 200 people, logistics and planning for exhibitions, small projects with interior design.
**Fundraising - not much
**Finances - supported a regional currency group.
**Public Relations/Marketing - organized pr and ci for a small crafts workshop, with a bilingual website.
**Web Development - designed websites for artists, designers, agencies.
**Video/Graphics/Art - layouted some flyers, websites, run as a group member an art gallery and installed here and there some art.
**Natural Building - have never done it, but I am itching to prove some concepts.
**Construction - can raise a wall, can fabricate terrazzo objects, stucco lustro in situ
**Architecture - worked some time as an interior designer. As long as I remember I was interested in architecture, especially local materials, biotechture, passive solar houses, passive cooling technics, permaculture
**Agriculture and Food Production - 3.5 years experience with organic gardening, dairy farming, grain cleaning, using tractors, interested in growing and process fibre, for fibre reinforced plastic. e.g.
**Woodworking - can use basic tools to build mokups for design models including wood-turning-lathe in a model workshop. Build a shelf or the structure for a room inside a house.
**Electronics - build and programmed a 6502 a meteo-logger and a power-line modem. With a 8052 AH-Basic I made and programmed (Basic) a stepper controlled platform, remote controlled via a HyperCard Interface from an Apple Mac.
I layouted (HiWire), drilled (CAM), etched the pcb's and soldered them in university courses many years ago. I can interpret a logic analyzer and oscilloscope.
**CAD Design - have experience with different CAD long time ago, but no projects where I could have trained it.
**Fabrication - steel framed furniture, build a fence for pigs, a bit of welding
**Energy - knowledge of concepts of natural cooling or heating methods for different uses
**Product Design - I studied industrial design.

*How have you already contributed to OSE, OSE Europe and Open Source Hardware?
no.

HOW can you help?
*How do you want to contribute?
running a small farm, evangelizing

*Can you volunteer to work with us, and if so, how many hours per week? Or do you have a free timeframe (week, month)?
not now.

*Are you interested in working with us for pay? If so, what services can you offer, and what is your hourly or per-project rate?

Germany and France

*Are you interested in a Dedicated Project Visit in OSE Communities in Europe? If so in which country?
any
*Are you interested in building GVCS or other Open Source Hardware equipment in Europe? If so which ones?
too early to answer this questions in 2012.

*Are you an OSE True Fan?
no.

*Would you like to see yourself working with us on a full-time basis?
as soon as places will materialize I can answer this.

Your Friends and Community
*What friends, people, communities and organizations do you know who are already doing valuable work for a better future?
*What are the technological (machines, tools, structures, ...) and biological (people, animals, plants, ...) needs of your community so that it becomes self-sufficient locally and globally connected?
thermal solar energy for heating flats, drying harvests, rain catchment structures, aqua culture, nut trees, vegetables, grain, fiber plants, animals for fertilization - no meet production, dairy farming (which and in what combination (cattle, goats, sheep) depends on the territory and climate), reforestation of a water shed in southern France. As if the spot could be far from media (water, electricity, gas, communication), it should have a self sustained communication infrastructure to get a connection to the Internet.

*Are your friends and community doing valuable work for a better future? How can they become more involved in this process and share more with everyone?
The term related to either "Permanent Agriculture" or "Permanent Culture". Permaculture is a systems thinking design model focusing on sustainable and regenerative systems. It considers ecological theory informed by the lifestyles of indigenous cultures as well as modern technological advancements. Permaculture ranges a diverse field of design methods, anything from perennial-based agricultural systems, to the homestead, to individual or community structures.

The majority of permaculture design is considered within the framework of 'zones'. David Holmgren has also theorized a series of 'meta-zones' in which he describes spheres of influence. In this meta-zone system, Zone 0 represents a person's core, their self, whereby energy inputted for change has a high likelihood of impact or result. This series of meta-zones ends at the global level; at the global level one is less likely to experience any form of direct impact.

Permaculture is considered a unique design system because of its core values and principles. While it was once considered a fringe movement of alternative culture, permaculture is now seen as an intelligent, informed, and truly important body of study:

<blockquote>"What permaculturists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet. We don't know what details of a truly sustainable future are going to be like, but we need options, we need people experimenting in all kinds of ways and permaculturists are one of the critical gangs that are doing that." </blockquote><div style="text-align: right; direction: ltr; margin-left: 1em;">- Dr David Suzuki geneticist, broadcaster, and international environmental advocate</div>

Vision
Developers and pioneer users will create a growing body of videos, some with more talk than others, and quite possibly in a growing number of languages.

This is the general procedure:
# The audio of a given video is transcribed.
# The transcription is turned into subtitles.
# The subtitles are translated into other languages.
# The translated subtitles can be spoken out loud to create a new audio track.
# The new audio track is merged with the original video to create a dubbed video.

Tools
* http://www.universalsubtitles.org is a fast growing tool to create subtitles and translations. It leaves the video where it was, and adds a layer with subtitles in one or more languages.
* http://www.piratepad.net is a cooperative text editor, plus a chat window on the side.

Current "best practice" suggestion
For videos with just a little text, http://www.universalsubtitles.org can be used as is: one person links to the video and creates the transcription in a few easy steps. The current (registered) user experience goes like this:
* You listen to a few seconds and type that text, and then another time-segment until it's done.
* You probably need to go through the video a few times until all the text is typed.
* You then synchronise it with the sound by pressing the down-arrow every time a new phrase is spoken.
* Finally, you publish the subtitles.
* Later, other people, usually one person per language, can create the translations within universalsubtitles itself.
* Subtitles and translations can be improved later by others.

For longer videos, a step by step procedure appears preferable:
* First, use tools like piratepad to create a transcription, perhaps cooperatively like we did with a video by Hans Rosling at http://piratepad.net/mCRNBbSGfl
* Once the transcription is in place, it may be placed on a wikipage for others to refine, if some words are not clear enough.
* In any case, the transcription is then split in short lines so that they will display well as subtitles.
* Using http://www.universalsubtitles.org the video is linked, the plain text is uploaded, and then very easily synchronised by the same user.
* Translation is currently done by one translator per language like it was done with smaller videos. Cooperative translations might be done by porting the text to google's translate tool (as a .srt file) or to piratepad (as plain text).
* As usual, subtitles and translations can be improved later by others.

A number of extremely exciting improvements are currently in the works. LucasG 01:07, 22 December 2010 (PST)
aim
This page is intended to streamline the process of subtitling, translating and later dubbing videos. It's based on the work done at http://openfarmtech.org/weblog/2010/10/global-village-construction-set-gvcs-in-2-minutes/ and
http://openfarmtech.org/index.php?title=Global_Village_Construction_Set_2_Minute_Explainer_Video

The second experience, call it prototype 2 of our subtitle-translation-dub work, is the current http://openfarmtech.org/weblog/2010/11/construction-time post, which has this video: http://vimeo.com/16547692

the good, the bad and the could-be's
* The good:
** Not too long ago we just couldn't have done it, but this works. It's been done, and will be done again.
** Even a non-perfect subtitled version is important for a number of people. Not that I'm aware that people are chipping in, but some things take time.
* The bad (not that it's very important, just that it's not good):
** Moving on to steps 2-end before having a good transcript is bad.
** Having to save, then youtube-ize vimeo files is bad. It will get better once universalsubtitles does vimeo, or if we work from already youtube-ized files.
** I haven't been able to use universalsubtitle's results directly; i.e., link from their file. In any case it's good practice to save the .scr file (see below).
* The could-be's:
** Maybe use youtube's automagical transcript capabilities?
** Dictation software anyone?

first attempt
I've tried http://universalsubtitles.org and managed to add text (see below). But I can't syncronise it using my ubuntu+firefox+vimeo configuration, cos my keyboard won't make things happen as expected. What I've got so far is at http://universalsubtitles.org/videos/0EOie2jKTGv0/ And here's my incomplete transcription:

second attempt
I've downloaded the video from vimeo, then uploaded it to Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATdiBReVYd0 added the subtitles I already had http://universalsubtitles.org/videos/psnl29FbPHF5/ and finaly got it synchronised.

other ways
we could use youtube's automagic transcription tool, see if that helps my foreign ear!

I've made a few changes to this transcription. They're in Italics, so you'll see them easily. I might be wrong, so if someone could please check them out, that'd be nice. A plumbob. -Knut
00:00:14,83 --> 00:00:16,47
el pulverizador de suelo

6
00:00:16,47 --> 00:00:19,36
el cubo de potencia

7
00:00:19,36 --> 00:00:23,61
y ahora estamos listos para construir

8
00:00:23,61 --> 00:00:27,91
hemos completado la última pieza que faltaba para comenzar a construir

9
00:00:27,91 --> 00:00:30,14
la prensa de ladrillos de tierra comprimida

10
00:00:30,14 --> 00:00:32,36
el liberador

11
00:00:32,36 --> 00:00:35,10
? especial Granja Factor-e

12
00:00:48,53 --> 00:00:52,22
hemos ? el tractor, montado el segundo cubo de potencia

13
00:00:52,22 --> 00:00:54,54
el pulverizador de suelo

14
00:00:54,54 --> 00:01:07,89
podemos empezar a triturar

15
00:01:07,89 --> 00:01:10,23
tomamos el pulverizador de suelo

16
00:01:10,23 --> 00:01:13,37
y lo ponemos directamente desde ahí a la prensa de ladrillos

17
00:01:13,37 --> 00:01:15,03
y entonces podemos prensar ladrillos

18
00:01:15,03 --> 00:01:23,47
el paso principal de manejar el suelo ya está resuelto

19
00:01:23,47 --> 00:01:29,83
¡y aquí hay un ladrillo!

20
00:01:29,83 --> 00:01:34,02
nuestro plan ahora es construir una estructura para trabajar que tendrá este aspecto

21
00:01:34,04 --> 00:01:38,40
las unidades de vivienda tendrán este aspecto

22
00:01:38,40 --> 00:01:42,28
esto es construcción modular con ladrillos de tierra comprimida

23
00:01:42,28 --> 00:01:48,48
estamos empezando con ?pilones de cemento con 3 pies de gravilla por debajo

24
00:01:48,48 --> 00:01:51,78
ponemos el ?pilón

25
00:01:51,78 --> 00:01:55,12
luego podemos colocar ladrillos sobre eso

26
00:01:55,12 --> 00:01:59,30
tenemos que asegurarnos de que vamos verticalmente hacia arriba así que tenemos una ?forma

27
00:01:59,30 --> 00:02:04,17
para asegurarnos de que vamos derechos hacia arriba, luego al final ?

28
00:02:04,17 --> 00:02:07,78
? para proteger de ? ladrillos no estabilizados ?

29
00:02:07,78 --> 00:02:11,41
hace tiempo armamos también algunas vigas

30
00:02:11,41 --> 00:02:14,14
nos vendría bien un techo

31
00:02:14,14 --> -1:59:59,00
¡contribuye con dinero!

00:00:01,50 --> 00:00:04,83
Willkommen bei unseren Abenteuern

Bauen mit dem Global Village Baukasten

3
00:00:08,54 --> 00:00:10,93
Hier gibt's ein Update zu unserer Arbeit

4
00:00:10,93 --> 00:00:14,83
Der 2. Prototyp des Open Source Schleppers ist mit Crowdfunding finanziert

5
00:00:14,83 --> 00:00:16,47
Der Boden-Zerstäuber

6
00:00:16,47 --> 00:00:19,36
Der Energieblock

7
00:00:19,36 --> 00:00:23,61
und nun sind wir bereit zum Bauen

8
00:00:23,61 --> 00:00:27,91
Jetzt haben wir die letzten fehlenden Teile für den Baubeginn fertig gestellt

9
00:00:27,91 --> 00:00:30,14
Die Stampflehm-Ziegel Presse

10
00:00:30,14 --> 00:00:32,36
Der Löser

11
00:00:32,36 --> 00:00:35,10
Factor-e Farm Special Edition

12
00:00:48,53 --> 00:00:52,22
Wir haben den Schlepper, den zweiten Energieblock montiert

13
00:00:52,22 --> 00:00:54,54
den Boden-Zerstäuber

14
00:00:54,54 --> 00:01:07,89
Wir können mit dem Zermahlen anfangen

15
00:01:07,89 --> 00:01:10,23
Wir nehmen den Boden-Zerstäuber

16
00:01:10,23 --> 00:01:13,37
lassen es von ihm geradewegs in die Stampflehm-Ziegel Presse fallen

17
00:01:13,37 --> 00:01:15,03
Dann können wir Backsteine pressen

18
00:01:15,03 --> 00:01:23,47
Die Hauptarbeit der Bodenaufbereitung ist nun gelöst

19
00:01:23,47 --> 00:01:29,83
und hier ist ein Baustein!

20
00:01:29,83 --> 00:01:34,02
Unsere Idee ist es eine Fabrikhalle zu bauen, welches so aussieht

21
00:01:34,04 --> 00:01:38,40
Wohngebäude, welche dieses Design haben könnten

22
00:01:38,40 --> 00:01:42,28
Das ist modulare Stampflehm-Ziegel Bauweise

23
00:01:42,28 --> 00:01:48,48
Wir beginnen mit einer Betonfläche mit 90 cm Kies darunter

24
00:01:48,48 --> 00:01:51,78
wir legen auf den Betonblock

25
00:01:51,78 --> 00:01:55,12
dann können wir Ziegel darauf legen

26
00:01:55,12 --> 00:01:59,30
Wir vergewissern uns, dass wir vertikal innerhalb einer Form bleiben

27
00:01:59,30 --> 00:02:04,17
und Lote, um senkrecht bauen, am Ende werden wir

28
00:02:04,17 --> 00:02:07,78
es kalken, um es vor Regen zu schützen

29
00:02:07,78 --> 00:02:11,41
Vorher haben wir schon ein paar Träger zusammengefügt

30
00:02:11,41 --> 00:02:14,14
Jetzt brauchen wir noch ein Dach

31
00:02:14,14 --> -1:59:59,00
Interessiert Dich das? Mach einfach mit!

* The good:
* The could-be's:

A plumbob. -Knut
here's an update on our work

4
00:00:10,93 --> 00:00:14,83
we've crowdfunded the open source tractor, second prototype

5
00:00:14,83 --> 00:00:16,47
the soil pulveriser

6
00:00:16,47 --> 00:00:19,36
the powercube

7
00:00:19,36 --> 00:00:23,61
and we're now ready to build

8
00:00:23,61 --> 00:00:27,91
we've now completed the last missing piece for beginning construction

9
00:00:27,91 --> 00:00:30,14
the CEB press

10
00:00:30,14 --> 00:00:32,36
the liberator

11
00:00:32,36 --> 00:00:35,10
Factor-e Farm special ?tion

12
00:00:48,53 --> 00:00:52,22
we've got ? the tractor, mounted the second power cube

13
00:00:52,22 --> 00:00:54,54
the soil pulveriser

14
00:00:54,54 --> 00:01:07,89
we can begin to grind

15
00:01:07,89 --> 00:01:10,23
we take the soil pulveriser

16
00:01:10,23 --> 00:01:13,37
dump directly from it into the CEB press

17
00:01:13,37 --> 00:01:15,03
then we can press bricks

18
00:01:15,03 --> 00:01:23,47
the main step of soil handling has now been solved

19
00:01:23,47 --> 00:01:29,83
and here is a brick!

20
00:01:29,83 --> 00:01:34,02
our plan now is to build a work structure that will look like this

21
00:01:34,04 --> 00:01:38,40
the housing units that will look like this

22
00:01:38,40 --> 00:01:42,28
this is compressed earth brick modular construction

23
00:01:42,28 --> 00:01:48,48
we're starting with concrete pad? with three feet of gravel underneath

24
00:01:48,48 --> 00:01:51,78
we put on the pad

25
00:01:51,78 --> 00:01:55,12
we can then lay bricks on that

26
00:01:55,12 --> 00:01:59,30
we've got to make sure we're going vertically up so we have a ?form

27
00:01:59,30 --> 00:02:04,17
to make sure we're going straight up, then at the end we'll ?

28
00:02:04,17 --> 00:02:07,78
like wash this ? to protect from ? unstabilised bricks ?

29
00:02:07,78 --> 00:02:11,41
we also put together some trusses a while ago

30
00:02:11,41 --> 00:02:14,14
we could still use a roof

31
00:02:14,14 --> -1:59:59,00
chip in!

.srt spanish
1
00:00:01,50 --> 00:00:04,83
bienvenidos a nuestras aventuras

2
00:00:04,83 --> 00:00:08,54
construyendo con el kit de construcción de aldeas globales

3
00:00:08,54 --> 00:00:10,93
esto es una actualización de nuestro trabajo

4
00:00:10,93 --> 00:00:14,83
hemos recaudado fondos para el tractor de código abierto, segundo prototipo

5
00:00:14,83 --> 00:00:16,47
el pulverizador de suelo

6
00:00:16,47 --> 00:00:19,36
el cubo de potencia

7
00:00:19,36 --> 00:00:23,61
y ahora estamos listos para construir

8
00:00:23,61 --> 00:00:27,91
hemos completado la última pieza que faltaba para comenzar a construir

9
00:00:27,91 --> 00:00:30,14
la prensa de ladrillos de tierra comprimida

10
00:00:30,14 --> 00:00:32,36
el liberador

11
00:00:32,36 --> 00:00:35,10
? especial Granja Factor-e

12
00:00:48,53 --> 00:00:52,22
hemos ? el tractor, montado el segundo cubo de potencia

13
00:00:52,22 --> 00:00:54,54
el pulverizador de suelo

14
00:00:54,54 --> 00:01:07,89
podemos empezar a triturar

15
00:01:07,89 --> 00:01:10,23
tomamos el pulverizador de suelo

16
00:01:10,23 --> 00:01:13,37
y lo ponemos directamente desde ahí a la prensa de ladrillos

17
00:01:13,37 --> 00:01:15,03
y entonces podemos prensar ladrillos

18
00:01:15,03 --> 00:01:23,47
el paso principal de manejar el suelo ya está resuelto

19
00:01:23,47 --> 00:01:29,83
¡y aquí hay un ladrillo!

20
00:01:29,83 --> 00:01:34,02
nuestro plan ahora es construir una estructura para trabajar que tendrá este aspecto

21
00:01:34,04 --> 00:01:38,40
las unidades de vivienda tendrán este aspecto

22
00:01:38,40 --> 00:01:42,28
esto es construcción modular con ladrillos de tierra comprimida

23
00:01:42,28 --> 00:01:48,48
estamos empezando con ?pilones de cemento con 3 pies de gravilla por debajo

24
00:01:48,48 --> 00:01:51,78
ponemos el ?pilón

25
00:01:51,78 --> 00:01:55,12
luego podemos colocar ladrillos sobre eso

26
00:01:55,12 --> 00:01:59,30
tenemos que asegurarnos de que vamos verticalmente hacia arriba así que tenemos una ?forma

27
00:01:59,30 --> 00:02:04,17
para asegurarnos de que vamos derechos hacia arriba, luego al final ?

28
00:02:04,17 --> 00:02:07,78
? para proteger de ? ladrillos no estabilizados ?

29
00:02:07,78 --> 00:02:11,41
hace tiempo armamos también algunas vigas

30
00:02:11,41 --> 00:02:14,14
nos vendría bien un techo

31
00:02:14,14 --> -1:59:59,00
¡contribuye con dinero!

00:00:01,50 --> 00:00:04,83
Willkommen bei unseren Abenteuern

2
00:00:04,83 --> 00:00:08,54
Bauen mit dem Global Village Baukasten

3
00:00:08,54 --> 00:00:10,93
Hier gibt's ein Update zu unserer Arbeit

4
00:00:10,93 --> 00:00:14,83
Der 2. Prototyp des Open Source Schleppers ist mit Crowdfunding finanziert

5
00:00:14,83 --> 00:00:16,47
Der Boden-Zerstäuber

6
00:00:16,47 --> 00:00:19,36
Der Energieblock

7
00:00:19,36 --> 00:00:23,61
und nun sind wir bereit zum Bauen

8
00:00:23,61 --> 00:00:27,91
Jetzt haben wir die letzten fehlenden Teile für den Baubeginn fertig gestellt

9
00:00:27,91 --> 00:00:30,14
Die Stampflehm-Ziegel Presse

10
00:00:30,14 --> 00:00:32,36
Der Löser

11
00:00:32,36 --> 00:00:35,10
Factor-e Farm Special Edition

12
00:00:48,53 --> 00:00:52,22
Wir haben den Schlepper, den zweiten Energieblock montiert

13
00:00:52,22 --> 00:00:54,54
den Boden-Zerstäuber

14
00:00:54,54 --> 00:01:07,89
Wir können mit dem Zermahlen anfangen

15
00:01:07,89 --> 00:01:10,23
Wir nehmen den Boden-Zerstäuber

16
00:01:10,23 --> 00:01:13,37
lassen es von ihm geradewegs in die Stampflehm-Ziegel Presse fallen

17
00:01:13,37 --> 00:01:15,03
Dann können wir Backsteine pressen

18
00:01:15,03 --> 00:01:23,47
Die Hauptarbeit der Bodenaufbereitung ist nun gelöst

19
00:01:23,47 --> 00:01:29,83
und hier ist ein Baustein!

20
00:01:29,83 --> 00:01:34,02
Unsere Idee ist es eine Fabrikhalle zu bauen, welches so aussieht

21
00:01:34,04 --> 00:01:38,40
Wohngebäude, welche dieses Design haben könnten

22
00:01:38,40 --> 00:01:42,28
Das ist modulare Stampflehm-Ziegel Bauweise

23
00:01:42,28 --> 00:01:48,48
Wir beginnen mit einer Betonfläche mit 90 cm Kies darunter

24
00:01:48,48 --> 00:01:51,78
wir legen auf den Betonblock

25
00:01:51,78 --> 00:01:55,12
dann können wir Ziegel darauf legen

26
00:01:55,12 --> 00:01:59,30
Wir vergewissern uns, dass wir vertikal innerhalb einer Form bleiben

27
00:01:59,30 --> 00:02:04,17
und Lote, um senkrecht bauen, am Ende werden wir

28
00:02:04,17 --> 00:02:07,78
?, um es vor Regen zu schützen

29
00:02:07,78 --> 00:02:11,41
Vorher haben wir schon ein paar Träger zusammengefügt

30
00:02:11,41 --> 00:02:14,14
Jetzt brauchen wir noch ein Dach

31
00:02:14,14 --> -1:59:59,00
Interessiert Dich das? Mach einfach mit!
