We call this Evolving to Freedom because only when we conquer material security - or making a living without stress - can we begin an earnest quest for higher purpose. Without basic needs being assured, there are always distractions from thriving. Some can Evolve to Freedom via voluntary simplicity, but most people do not have the spiritual skill or internal desire to do so. Thus, there is a possibility of direct engagement in environmental stewardship in the very act of production. True to this, OSE promotes the use of local and recycled resources as a connection to environmental stewardship. See [[Protecting the Environment]]. As such, we see technologists as having the potential to act as prime stewards of environmental integrity. Given the disintegrated nature of education systems - technologists are not taught to be environmental stewards. 			This is not to say that one cannot evolve to freedom by spiritual growth - but that it appears easier in today's world to evolve to freedom via industrial productivity on a small scale.
