New page

Kelly is the owner of General Design, which provides OEM drafting support using AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Inventor. Kelly got his start at the University of Missouri; where he majored in mechanical engineering and chemistry, and participated in the solar car and hydrogen fuel cell car teams and a thermal-fluids research group. One day while organizing the MU R&D machine shop, a three-phase electric motor was taken apart and sparked intrigue in Kelly. Kelly decided to finish school at the Oregon Institute of Technology of Portland with a BS in Renewable Energy Engineering. OIT taught subjects in thermal/fluids, hydro power, solar power, batteries, power electronics, electrical power protection and control, industrial control, technical writing, and team communication. After graduation, Kelly got a job running a manual lathe at Allied Systems in Sherwood OR; mostly making gear blanks for Hyster winches and fixing non-conforming parts. He later moved to the office where he started as a drafter for Freeman hay balers and later provided electrical, hydraulic, and control engineering support for Wagner logstackers, marine cranes, and the on-site shops. Now, Kelly is personal drafter to fellow engineers and plans to bootstrap an open source OEM busines.
