Marie.Byleen 11:35, 21 January 2011 (PST) Yes, I would love to be on a team to clean up the wiki. Would you describe the process you've been going through to consolidate so that I can work in a similar manner? How have you been deciding which things are too fragmented and which things are missing? What needs attention right now, in your opinion?

I did some work consolidating on one page, How can I help?, and have been working on improving the FAQ, but lately I've been having trouble framing a problem space for myself. I need some direction. I was thinking about updating the site header, but I am having trouble figuring out how to make it make sense in terms of both Conor's topical outline and the new definition of the GVCS from the Proposal 2012. At this point I think it would be better to attack that particular issue later in the process of clean-up.

@Marie.Byleen - Recently, I have been categorizing a number of pages. Came across many very small ones, with only one or two lines. Those could be consolidated into larger pages. In terms of what to do, that's for the clean-up crew to decide. Here is an email I recently sent to Elifarley (cc:Marcin) :

Hi Elifarley, I have been updating a number of pages on the OSE wiki recently. More and more I am noticing the need for a large-scale wiki overhaul. The wiki has grown over ~ 4 years and, like a garden, needs some maintenance. Perhaps we can get a team together to do "the great wiki clean-up of 2011". This should accomplish the following goals and more:

- merging small, often uncategorized pages into larger ones; deleting pages that are no longer needed, have been consolidated into larger ones. Consolidating team will make sure that no new broken links are created.

- improved overview/accessibility on the main page (examples: http://en.ekopedia.org/Main_Page or http://open-sustainability.org/wiki/Main_Page). For example, the link list on the left side of the wiki needs should include a link to the essential category metalworks

- many of the main pages ("nodes") should have a section on product ecology (interaction, interchangeability, synergies etc.). I have started putting together such sections in the pages on heliostat, bicycle power andcompressed air, for example.

- (Marcin's input needed): possible revision of basic GVCS technologies (is "compressed fuel gas" really such a good idea ? and if not, shouldn't alternatives be more prominently featured on the wiki (ethanol, methanol, methane, biogas) ?

I therefore propose that a working group be formed that will come up with a plan for the wiki cleanup. A blog post and Facebook post is made to reach anybody interested in participating.

Cheers, Rasmus
