Great! On first sight I missed:

1) Gear Drive: High ratio gear drives (~1:100) like e.g. Harmonic Drives are standard in industrial robots. I have no idea, how hard it would be to to develop an open source alternative.

2) Kinematic parameters: What are the (Denavit Hartenberg) parameters for the proposed kinematic design?
