OVERVIEW

We are building an online and TV broadcast platform 'DIN Forums Network', as an alternative to existing conventional programming, news in particular.

PROPOSAL

Therefore the primary purpose of building it is to improve access to and establishing conditions for a more coherent environment for user/audience participation within mass media. By reimagining our current way of using conventional TV and Web newscast production and by gaining access to our proposed open public broadcast millions of citizen journalists - will be able to realize their potential.

NEED FOR SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE

It will be a good precedent to compare to those platforms of the big mass media corporations, which claim they 'have already invented social TV' many times, but anybody who has used those 'social TV' platforms knows better. The news content for broadcast of conventional mass media outlets can't yet be determined by their audiences due to the nature of modern news media outlets that has been established almost 100 years ago. And nothing has been changed there.

As long as the conventional news organizations do not trust us, their viewers and won't allow communities of citizen journalists to gain access to live broadcast. We can't wait and we should broadcast it in our own new way. Due to profound enhancements of Internet technology, we know that the ways of news production and distribution will never be the same again.

GOALS

It would be like returning to the early days of the American Republic when almost every city had one or more independent publication(s), and when corporations hadn't yet molded public opinion.

Therefore we are inviting the citizen journalism communities around the globe to join us for testing a system and method of verifying user-generated information and commentary by using the DIN webcast.

This platform suggests combining a social network and a TV news network in one body. We need a group of socially active people who would like to act as DIN's outsourced staff offering their contribution for the purpose of testing this platform.

In the event of a successful trial, we can move towards launching both the social network and TV components of the DIN Forums network together. It will necessitate the drawing in of funds using a crowd source tools such as kickstarter.com, angel.co or those similar. And for the purpose of launching a 24/7 broadcast outlet that pioneering staff could take job positions as full time employee staff at that new public mass media outlet.

CHALLENGES

You can ask us, but what is the ecology of this project?

We would like to avoid re-using all that informational garbage and pollutants in our proposed new mass media outlet. We are challenge by media environment that gives us only circular patterns of information. This stuff is well described in Jeff Jarvis's article "Can we reimagine TV news (please)?"

"Because TV news does suck in so many ways: repeating what we already know; standing on its silly orthodoxies (the stand-up “report” in front of a location where nothing has happened in 12 hours); happy talk and those silly verbal fillips during handovers that add no information or value (“…a very troubling report this evening”); weather über alles; fluff from flacks; FIRE! and crime; militant banality; and most important, virtually no original reporting and even less investigation."

METHOD AND PROCEDURE

At the 1st stage of its development this platform can be tested with the help of worldwide citizen journalist communities using the open source nature of our platform: everybody can come in and talk on our forums. We don't like all these corrupt 'senior chief political or economical correspondents' who decide, instead of us, what we have to watch and think. We would like to say to them: slow down and let people talk. Henceforth 'your' job will be to help people to talk with each other.

At the 1st stage we would like to combine DIN's system and method of broadcasting with available social media platforms such as Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Twitter, Blogger, Skype, Airtime and others. At this 1st stage our TV and Web broadcasting station will be located in Miami, Florida. We, as the founders, have initial funds for supporting this project by providing the necessary equipment and broadband capacity for the first outsourced staff that we are looking for, now. Whose would include 6 initial outsourced staff members located worldwide, and who can engage with up to 8 other local citizen journalists whom they are familiar with on a regular basis. It will guarantee the prevalence of the information from the latter. We need to reinvent news — its formats, relationships with viewers, and its business models, especially given the new opportunities for journalistic development that technology has provided.
