Module Breakdown with explanations of how each module fits into the OSE Specifications.

Universal Frame

The Universal Frame module is a scalable and low-cost foundation for the 3D printer. Its open source, simple design allows for distributed manufacturing using common off the shelf components combined with 3D printed parts.

Interfaces

  • The top corners interface with the ends of the Y axes using nuts and screws.
  • The Z axes are affixed to the frame via movable bases that are secured in place with fasteners screwed into plastic.

Universal Axis

The Universal Axis is a belt-driven precision motion system that can be used in numerous places throughout OSE's product ecology. The module can be scaled intensively and extensively by either moving up to larger axis/belt sizes or by doubling up axes together.

Interfaces

  • The idler, motor side, and carriage all have some variation of the 30mm square bolt pattern that is seen best on the carriage. This allows for the attachment of almost anything with nuts and screws.
  • The precision rods can have springs added around them to aid in counteracting heated bed weight.
  • The precision rods can have rings added to suspend a fireproof fabric covering over the heated chamber.
