sintered metal foam

Sintering is traditionally a method for making objects from powder, by heating the material in a sintering furnace. In the digital age, this has been combined with lasers and other methods for precise heating of the powder. With induction sintering, the (metal) powder is heated by means of an inductor coil. This may still be combined with a furnace which provides much of the heat to get to the metal's melting point. The additional heat for completion of digital fabrication is then provided by a CNC-controlled induction coil.
