Workshop Rules
Failure to adhere to workshop rules may result in injury or death.
Safety is priority
- Everyone is responsible for safe workshop conditions:
- Do not create a mess or clutter.
- Maintain awareness of your actions and those around you.
- Everyone must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as follows:
- Eye protection and steel toed boots must be worn at all times.
- Hearing protection and gloves must be worn when appropriate. Executive Staff directs when appropriate. Notify everyone prior to increasing decibel levels by shouting, "EARS" and allowing all personnel to don hearing protection.
- Gloves must not be worn when operating a spinning or turning machine.
Workshop Authorities
- Product Lead is the primary authority of all matters regarding use, maintenance, permissions, organization, cleanliness, tooling, scheduling, expansion, and any other matters related to the safe and effective use of the workshop and related areas.
- In the Product Lead's absence, other Executive Staff have authority.
- All personnel are authorized and responsible to uphold safety standards.
Tool Control
- Do not remove tools from the workshop.
- Report all injuries to the Product Lead or other Executive Staff immediately, no matter how minor.
- Do not operate machines, until you receive instruction from the Product Lead or Executive Staff.
- Do not perform maintenance, oil, clean, adjust, or repair a machine while in operations.
- Do not operate a machine if machine guarding is damaged or malfunctioning. Inform the Product Lead or other Executive Staff if the guarding is damaged or malfunctioning.
- Do not leave operating machines unattended.
- Do not try to stop the machine with your hands or body.
- Always keep hands, hair feet, etc. clear of operating machinery.
- Ensure tooling and work pieces are properly supported and clamped prior to operating a machine.
- Do not machine heavy or unwieldy work pieces without special support structures.
- Remove chuck keys, wrenches and other tools from machines after making adjustments.
- Food is not permitted in the workshop.
- Animals or pets are not permitted in the workshop or related areas.
- Notify the Product Lead or Executive Staff of a machine's abnormal sound.
- When in doubt, ASK the Product Lead or Executive Staff.
Workshop Cleanliness
- Clean up spilled liquids immediately.
- Put tools away when not in use.
- Place all scrap in scrap containers.
End of the Day
- Unplug everything.
- Shut the gas off.
- Wind up cords.
- Sweep floor.
- Store ALL HAND TOOLS in the tool boxes.
- Store ALL POWER TOOLS on the shelves.
Dress code
- See Workshop rules regarding PPE.
- Loose clothing is not permitted.
- Long sleeves are required when welding.
- Jewelry is not permitted.
- Long hair must be pulled back to avoid entanglement with operating machinery.
