Introduction

In this document, you'll find some information on how to create interactive links on OSE youtube video. This does not and should not be done on every video, yet in some cases, you might be interested to link your video to the existing pedagogical and interactive video we created in the summer of 2015 (see link here: http://youtu.be/IyDS3k7R1Tc) or to any new OSE interactive series of video.

how to add annotations?

- There are two ways to go to the annotation tab, which allows you to add interactive links to a video: 1) In the video manager tab of the OSE youtube account, click on the little arrow next to the 'edit' button of the video you want to work on. 2) When you are logged in to the OSE account, under each video, you'll see a few icons. Click on the 'speech bubble' icon.

the GVCS menu is special as it's a picture of the machines. For this menu you have to create a "spotlight annotation" instead of a 'note annotation'. 1) the text box with the name of hte machine goes in the RHS column, where there is a small space in between the text. When somebody will roll over the machine image, the text will appear in this space. It's important becuaes the text on the image is too small to be redable. 2) the annotation spotlight frame should be set in the color of the OSE color code of machine design phases. 3) all the 50 links around the image have already been created. When you go to the timeline with all the anotation, you will see them at the end of the timeline. The reason is to keep the image as less messy as possible until we do not have material for these links. How to do it? put the reading cursor at the end of the video and all the white boxes will appear. Click on the machine you want to update, and you will see in the timeline that the annotation box will get red edges. Click on it and edit as you wish. Do NOT forget to extend the link to the full video. - If it's a new video you want to upload, work in 'private mode' first. Just do not forget to turn your video 'public' at the end of your editing. You'll be able to do this in the video editor tab of the OSE channel. Select a video, and on top of hte list, there are several actions one can do, included the private/public/unlisted mode.

- Take 10 minutes to play around with the tool, but there are two main interactive links we do: 1) the notes are the rectangle box you'll see in most of the OSE pedagogical interactive project/ E.g.: http://youtu.be/IyDS3k7R1Tc 2) the spotlight (invisible link, and when one rolls over with the mouse, a text will appear). - You can also add links inside a same video, to jump cut to a certain hr:min:sec and create an interactive chapter. For this add a NOTE annotation, then add the same video link as the video you want to work on, and under the link, you can add the precise timing to jump to.

- always extend your links in the annotation timeline to the entire video length. Youtube by dedault creates them for 10 seconds only. - always verify your video at then end, and test try your links.

1) The 'MENU' button is always located on the top RHS of your scree. 2) If you want, you can add the following PNG to your video during the edit. Impossible to do on Youtube. 3) On youtube, you'll add a simple NOTE link with the "GVCS MENU" or "THEORY MENU", etc. 4) exception: if you upload for instance a new module (idler, rotor, etc) that can be used by several other video, you have to create a link, a click the 'open this video in a new window' under the link URL you add. Then from this video, you will create a menu to the main menu page (Theory, GVCS, TOOL). In this way, the person click on the module, but the first video stays open. The idea is to go one menu back at a time. E.g. if you create a new THEORY video, you will create a MENU button on the
