Categories needed

Some important guidelines on categories

  1. Stick to standard names. There is a category called 'Digital Fabrication', so use that; doon't go creating a category called 'Flexible Industry' or something.
  2. Use straightforward names rather than jargon or acronyms
  3. Don't create new categories that don't fit into the structure of the wiki as a whole. This wiki is a mess because hundreds of people have gone around creating pages like 'Wood Pellet Burner' and putting that in a category called 'Wood Pellet Burner'; this just leads to hundreds of dispersed, unconnected scraps of information. There are currently too many categories - something like 333 categories for about 1700 pages. There should be 100 at most, and these should have a coherent nested structure.

Here is a draft outline for categories and sub-categories to be used:

  • The Open Ecology Project
    • Previous events
    • Collaborators
    • PR materials
  • Related thought

Pictures, pictures, pictures!

Please add pictures to as many pages as possible. It doesn't matter if they don't provide extra information; they just make the page nicer to look at.

Pages needed

  • Using Templates
  • Available Templates

Refactoring needed

Are current priorities and this Wiki wish list the only pages that list "How you can help" ?

MediaWiki extensions needed

  • CategoryTree allows the category structure to be seen in outline form

Clean-up needed

  • various spam pages need to be removed: "buy Cialis..." etc.
  • There are also MANY pages in Chinese characters, probably spam also.

Suggestion to admins: Please, see if it's easy for you to delete those tagged pages. If that's the case, then we non-admins can help by tagging many pages for you to delete all at once.

Templates needed

  • A more compact Site header template, showing just the packages, with a tooltip for each package showing the projects within the package
