Alignment Tube Bolt Calcs

First Analysis

The following information was given to Mischa John for the first analysis by Brianna Kufa. After the first analysis, it was clear that we needed to look further into stripping force (the 45T). Brianna had assumed it was that because a friend told her it was up to 1/2 of the punching force.

  • The force will be coming upwards at 45 Tons total, through the nuts.
  • Analysis was to find if bolts holding weldment were strong enough.
  • The dimensions in the following photos:

Second Analysis

We found that stripping force was actually only up to 25% (http://books.google.com/books?id=4PZxakNhjT0C&pg=PA122&lpg=PA122&dq=punch+stripping+force&source=bl&ots=kU8Bn01b4k&sig=lOgoD1rthuwIuBRKetHNG0JSy3Q&hl=en&sa=X&ei=6-RkT6m-JMHgsQKvs722Dw&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=punch%20stripping%20force&f=false) of the punching force, or 22.5 Tons total (25% of 90)
