Basics

  • This page goes over various ways to create a coating to protect metal from scratches, abrasive damage, and Rust

Galvanization

  • Galvanisation
  • Works great for Rust, but is mainly done at the factory
  • Not very useful for abrasion etc

Paint

  • Adds some more corrosion protection
  • May prevent/reduce biofilm growth (IE Marine Paint for boat hulls etc)

Epoxy Based Paints/Thin Composite Coating

  • This provides great abrasion etc resistance by providing a comparitivly thick sacrificial layer (When compared to paint)
  • May have similar preformance to galvanisation (IF CONTINOUS/Sealed) (Needs more research)
