Overview

I'm in my mid-twenties. I work as an electrical engineer, specializing in wireless communications. I'm an RF hardware engineer, and have experience using spectrum analyzers, VNAs, VSAs, VSGs, and anechoic chambers. I specifically work with 802.11 and Bluetooth on a day-to-day basis. I have a lot of experience using LabVIEW, the perfect tool for machine control in many ways. Unfortunately it isn't open source.

I recently moved into a house on a few acres in the pacific northwest. There is a shop on the property as well. I'm interested in implementing the GVCS, specifically bootstrapping by building the fab tools first.

My free time is limited. My available funds moderate. I have little experience with "hands on" things, like welding, machining, working on motors, etc. However I should be able to learn fairly easily. My collection of tools isn't very extensive, however I do have a basic array of them.

I've built a few low-cost things such as a low-cost roof, greenhouse, raised beds, and more. I've got a BSEE and BS Physics.

WHY are you motivated to support/develop this work?

  • Do you endorse open source culture? Yes
  • Why are you interested in collaborating with us?
Contributing to a beneficial project, learning to design, build and collaborate, learning about manufacturing, implementing my own tools for economic benefits.
  • How do you think that the GVCS can address pressing world issues?
By changing the economic and monetary systems.
  • What should happen so that you become more involved with the project?
Overall progress, organization, communication, and results.
  • What are you missing in the project?
Clear direction on the state of all projects, teams, and needs.
  • What are your suggestions for improvement of the project?
First change/improve the forum software. This will facilitate better communication.

WHAT are your skills?

  • List all of your skills in these areas: Communications - Organizational - Computer Support - Finances - Design - Natural Building - Electronics - Automation - Metallurgy - Engineering - Fabrication - Agriculture - Energy - Architecture - Video/Graphics/Art - PR/Marketing - Education - Construction - Industry - CNC - Chemistry - Product Design - Other
Communications - wireless engineer by profession
Electronics - EE classes in college, experience programming microcontrollers in college
Automation - LabVIEW experience. Controlling hardware, data aquisition, GPIB, SCPI.
Engineering - LabVIEW data manipulation and visualization. Solidworks class in college.
Research and documentation, however I'd like to focus on replication, since I understand not many are in a position to replicate.
  • How have you already contributed to the project? No

HOW can you help?

  • How are you interested in contributing to the work of GVCS development? Working in a team (but not leading one) to develop a machine or component. In parallel, working to replicate machines that are nailed down.
  • Can you volunteer to work with us, and if so, how many hours per week? I can work from my home, only a few hours/week.
  • Are you interested in working with us for pay? If so, what services can you offer, and what is your hourly or per-project rate? No
  • Are you interested in purchasing equipment from us to help bootstrap development? Possibly, but not likely.
  • Are you interested in bidding for consulting/design/prototyping work? No
  • Are you a True Fan? If not, why not? No. Will use money for replication. Might be interested in becoming one using bitcoins though.
  • Would you like to see yourself working with us on a full-time basis? Not at the moment.
  • Are you interested in being part of the world's first, open source, resilient community? The GVCS is the preparatory step for the OSE Village Experiment – a 2 year, immersion experiment (2013-2014) for testing whether a real, thriving, modern-day prototype community of 200 people can be built on 200 acres using local resources and open access to information? We are looking for approximately 200 people to fill a diverse array of roles, according to the Social Contract that is being developed. This may be the boldest social experiment on earth - a pioneering community whose goal is to extend the index of possibilities regarding harmonious existence of humans, ecology, and technology. No
