Conversation with NoVo Foundation?

Jul 9, 2018, 1:50 PM

Dear OSE

I am a conducting some initial research for the NoVo Foundation around investing in resilience and a new economic model for a small city in upstate New York. I was wondering if I might speak with someone about OSEs work and whether it might be relevant for us.

Thanks in advance for your help

Martin

Hi Martin,

I'm the point of contact. Can I answer any specific questions? Have you seen our main OSE Site? One interesting point for NoVo Foundation's living local economies may be our Immersion Program.

Hi Marcin

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I've looked over your site and the immersion programme. It looks great, and it may be something we would be able to engage in next year but right now, for various practical reasons, we couldn't do an immersion training of that sort, fascinating and relevant though it certainly sounds.

I'm really interested in figuring out what part open source equipment might play in the future of this small City of Kingston NY, as it works to transition to a new economy. We're thinking both at the level of a single micro-factory and more systemically (i.e. in how the City approaches questions of equipment across the piste, from farms to schools to communications infrastructure to factories). We're intrigued and impressed by your model but, frankly, not quite sure where to start matching it to Kingston's needs and opportunities. Which is why I thought a conversation might be the most efficient starting point. Have you ever looked at how your model might be integrated into the transition plan of a City of this size and sort (25K population, amenable (if not quite 'full system-change/new civilisation' radical) City authorities, access to some resources etc)?

Cheers Martin

HI Marcin

Just wondering what you thought of the above, and if you - or someone in your team - would be open to an initial conversation?

Thanks Martin

We have not worked with any town to integrate our model yet, because we have a number of prototypes and only 4 product releases. I would say that if the entry point for our 4 product releases is not clear, then a conversation is likely to be premature.

OK. We'll keep looking around. Thanks.
