Notes

  • 1/16" aluminum, 3200 PSI - 2 IPM cut rate
  • 1 IPM for 1/8" aluminum.
  • 3/8" hard wood !

Cutting Cost of Industry Standards

  • As low as $20/hr for 30 hp 0.01 orifice [1].

Cutting Cost of Industry Standards

  • As low as $20/hr for 30 hp 0.01 orefice. Cut rate - 7 ipm for 1/2" mild steel with 30 hp, total operating cost $12/hr. 2 largest costs are 1/2 garnet, 1/2 pump/head parts. [2]. Lowest cost is 15 hp at $11/hr.
    • With 32 feet of cut per hour - this is decent for 1/2" steel. Can be a main production tool.

BOM

  • [2] 10000 PSI hydraulic cylinder - $300 - [3]
  • Garnet - 50c/lb [4]. Can be recycled 5x. Usage - about 1 lb/min. [5]
    • There are abrasives harder than garnet (shorten mixing tube life) or softer (don't cut as fast)
  • 15 hp pump - [6]
  • Looks like a 40ksi booster water pump running on air [7]
  • Intensifier pump - $5k - [8]
  • Intensifier, no plumbing or valves - $2700 [9]

Literature Review

  • Indian Waterjet with DIY nozzle At 2000 psi - [10]

Low Pressure Examples

  • Water - 8000 psi?
  • 17,000 psi - [11]
