I am not sure where I found the higher price. But I think I was on the Ford site. The one you found is much more reasonable.

I would think we need to find a way to greatly simplify their concept. Semi trucks are typically built on straight "C" rails for a frame. I would think we should be able to build a truck on a similar frame.

I think opensourcing a chassis would be a good first step.

This can readily be made with weldments (possibly) but studying an industry standard design would be a good first step.
