Open-sourcing civilization relies on studying industry standards to meet the time Binding requirement of effective research.

The Analysis of Industry Standard Design (AISD) takes an existing implementation of a technology (Consultant SME), studies the history of that given technology, and proposes an OSE implementation including the rationale of why the Industry Standard (IS) was or was not chosen.

AISD and history can be derived without any knowledge of OSE. However, the choice of OSE's implementation involves an ability to:

  • Calculate an OSE Specifications score
  • Calculation of cost, build time, and unique/overall parts count
  • Calculation of a Product Ecology score
