Work Exchange Program
Current Things to Know:
40 hours per week logged work time in exchange for 1 workshop credit
1 workshop credit is roughly valued at $600 and would “pay” for an entire $600 workshop
Workshops could be priced by dollar amount and credit amount so that credits can be applied to future workshops. This is roughly equal to $15/hour so it’s a pretty good deal for everyone
Workers will be provided with a room but no weekly food allowance

Description

Factor e Farm (FeF) is a 30 acre parcel of land 1 hour away from the Kansas City International Airport in Missouri. Factor e Farm is the headquarters of Open Source Ecology since 2006 see the Founder's TED Talk for an introduction. Our facility is constantly under construction, using as much open source, libre processes and hardware as possible. We are much more than a farm. At Factor e Farm, we grow ideas, and put them into practice. Factor e Farm is a socio-technical experiment. It aims to take what civilization has learned about what it means to thrive, and determine whether it is feasible to use abundant local resources to create industrial civilization, up to semiconductor and metal production – on the scale of a parcel of land – at 2 hours of work per day – using local resources – regeneratively – achieving a modern standard of living. This is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal, but its achievement has huge implications on solving Wicked Problems.

Help Needed

Our work exchange program involves 4 days of volunteer work in exchange for participating in the CEB Press/Power Cube Workshop. attend our future workshops. We need assistance preparing for our upcoming workshop and cleaning up afterwards, so we are seeking volunteers for Sept 19th - 22 - in exchange for the workshop on the 23-25 of September. Work includes site preparation, cleanup, and organization of the living/working spaces.

More Details:

Volunteers will be provided with a room, but have to cover their own food. They also have to cover a $15/day overhead cost during the workshop.

Requirements

Must log time appropriately to received credit Must work within OSE Work Exchange guidelines

Accommodation

Our property is located 20 minutes from Cameron, 40 minutes from St. Joseph, and one hour from Kansas City. You will have a shared dorm room in our Hablab - a 22-person dorm with complete kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities. A food allowance will be provided which you can coordinate making with the other volunteers. We can provide pickup and dropoff from the Kansas City airport as well as weekly runs into town for supplies.

Performance expectations

40 hours per week. Most importantly, you have to be a competent person. We like people who like to work. We are people who like to work. We have travelled all over the world to many many countries and have ultimately determined that the most fun thing to do is to work on fun projects. We are looking for people like that, who find work fun and who like to do it even if they don't have to and who like to do a good job. Time and activities must be logged in detail to receive credit Get up every morning without being asked, self motivated, with initiative and to see things that need to be done without being asked. A positive attitude with a personality plus and charisma. Respect others feelings and positive moral is important to the success on the project. Cleanliness, personal hygiene & tidiness is necessary. Your room & well made bed is a reflection of your appearance. Each week of volunteering gives you 1 Credit toward any future OSE workshops If interested, please fill out our online application
