  • Transistors are power handling components which may be turned on and off rapidly by using a small logic signal.
  • They are rated by power dissipation, such as a 1kW transistor - which can handle 320A and 600V - or 200kW! For only $17 [1]. In an H bridge configuration necessary to create AC outputs, 4 of these are required - so power handling cost is under $100 for 200kW - or 50 cents per kilowatt! In principle, an induction furnace should thus cost $100 for 200kW as far as the power handling transistors go.
