Universal Axis

  • See Universal Axis for axis design
  • Note: axis motor piece can be cut 1" to allow only a 3 bolt mounting for the stepper. This allows mini printers to be tighter in size.
  • Half-carriage piece may be a useful addition.
  • Square 6 mm bolt pattern on 3 axes allows for addition axes to be mounted vertically or horizontally. This capability is removed if half-pieces are used.
  • All in all, half pieces can be used for the carriage and idler piece, and a 2/3 piece can be used for the motor mount piece
  • Nut catchers in end pieces extend the size of those pieces
  • If mounting is done on the face of the end pieces (2 of them), then the nut catchers are not necessary
  • End pieces may be mounted either on their face or through its outer end side (the nut catcher)

Geometry

  • Using external axis mounting allows for all the axes to be identical in lenght, thereby reducing part count over internal axis mounting design - where X and Y axes (as well as bed rods) would otherwise be of different length
