My name is Lion Kimbro, and I'm a friend of Sam Rose.

I will be more present later, when I get closer to actual construction.

But something came up in a conversation I thought might be of value to Open Source Ecology: Using snow construction to help train people.

For example, the Quinzhee: ([1], [2], [3])

Snow construction may be a great way for people to get into building.

  • It can be done in a matter of hours.
  • The variety of techniques seem to mirror the variety of techniques of building houses out of Earth.
    • Quinzhee: make a mound, dig out of it
    • Fort: grow up from the ground in packed layers
    • Igloo: use bricks
  • A complete (and useable!) structure can be made in hours
  • It's challenging, ...
    • ...but surmountable.
  • It costs nothing.
  • It can be done by instructions, you don't even necessarily need someone on hand to help.

Take care, Lion
