  • 550 RPM to do a 5 mm hole:

Power Tapping - Tapping with a Drill Press

  • Requires 2 flute tap to make it easiest, otherwise chips bind up
  • Same hole and tap using same fixture with drill press - guarantees alignment
  • The tap self-feeds the drill press downwards. This implies that this would not be doable so well with a hand-held drill. Mag drill would work.
  • Not so! - at 10:28 the skilled man shows how to do it with a cordless drill! No tap handle needed.
  • Lot of purists hate it
  • Not a beginner's technique
