• Shawn - alumnus - started with a $1M grant.
• License - requires an open source license by OSI standard. Has good relationship - Patrick Masson - director of OSI.
• Interested in - with respect to multiple universities
• Wes is part of Teaching Open Source
• CSAW, YAKS - larger projects?
• Citizens Science for South African Waters
• University - but doesn't have funds to pay for much. Does have a makerspace with 3D printers.
• Good penetration in the CS department.
• Trying to be less software and bring in other interests outside of software.
• RPI is a tech oriented university. Has some humanities.
• Broaden student base - artistic and hardware interest as well.
• Hoped to invite me to come down. But things have changed. RPI is close to NYC - COVID -
• Open to a student group - collaboration between RCOS and OSE.
• Would potentially be an advisor. How can we leverage RCOS for any projects?
• If leverage RCOS. Students are given a lot of freedom.
• We can propose a project - that is open source, collaborative, audacious, and is technology for good.
• Hardware, software, enterprise, marketing, architecture, writing, communition.
• Summer - runing RCOS - interesting to brainstorm a collaboration. Relatively small chunk project.
• Initial proof of concept application - rising Juniors. People who just completes software year. Will have 30-40.
• Would normally do a selection process. We put in OSE as part of a selections. Proposal for remote control tractor.
• When is the Summer School? May 20-Aug 20 summer semester. Has semesters - but now have Fall, Sprint, and Summer.
• Pitch day - people pitch project. Find out ahead of time - get some students interested ahead of time.
• 8 projects with - 4-6 students per project.
• Remote control tractor - interesting. Medical imaging and robotics. Looking for projects.
