Basics

A system, usually conducted by government legislation, in which an extra "Deposit" is added to the cost of something, but returned if a waste product etc is returned
Typically done for bottles and cans
Since, if all is done according to the terms layed out, the deposit is refunded, the cost to the user is nothing
It aims to make the "proper" behavior encouraged
