Basics

  • A Geodesic Dome Corrugated Containerboard ("Cardboard Boxes" with the zigzag layer)
  • Common material, but surprisingly strong and insulative, despite still being easy to work with

25cm Diameter, Panel Construction, 2V Dome

  • Dimensions according to This Calculator :
    • "A" Length: 6.83 cm
      • "A" Midpoint: 3.415
    • "B" Length: 7.73 cm
      • "B" Midpoint: 3.865
    • Diameter : 25.00 cm
    • Surface area : 981.72 cm
    • Floor area : 482.81 cm
    • Circumference : 77.25 cm
  • Panels needed
    • 10x "B-B-B" Panels
    • 30x ""A-A-B" Panels

Panel Cutting Templates

  • ( User: Eric note here, These should be dimensionally accurate printable templates, BUT i am new to freecad, so these drawings may be off (test printing one now) )
    • Printed out both, they seemed to be the right ratios but not the right length. I'll try and get a number on here of what they ended up as, and check my work to see where it went wrong
      • "B" is 4.73cm on all sides of the BBB template printout i have
      • "B" is ~5cm and "A" is ~4.4cm on the AAB template printout i have
      • Seems like they both are around 0.64 versions of it?
      • At the final assembly step, definitely smaller, also this can make it harder to assemble
        • Could possibly just add more segments to make it "taller" and thus wider due to the slope? (not efficient though, just need to fix the template and/or use the one from the instructable (did learn how to kind of handle the workflow though, so should be faster in future versions)
