Basics

  • In the context of FDM 3D Printers, the term "Bed Leveling" Tends to refer to "Bed Level Compensation" with the mesh sensing etc (or some similar term)
  • Essentially it measures the variations of the bed, typically with a mesh sample, although more complex methods exist, then counteracts this via the Z Axis Movement
  • True "Auto Bed Leveling" / Bed Tramming Printers such as the Ratrig Core V3 utilize some sort of Kinematic Printbed where the printbed is mounted to the Z Axis in 3/4 places and thus can be physically leveled later
  • Also there is some debate as to the effectiveness of bed level compensation vs putting a pile of effort into Making the Machine Square and physically leveling the bed
