Basics
- This page goes over various ways to determine how much FDM Filament you have remaining on a Spool currently loaded into a printer
- It also covers the discussion of various devices that could automate this process
Existing Methods
- How Many Meters of Filament on a Spool + Length Printed (On the LCD Menu of a Printer)
- And Meters of FDM Filament to Grams if need be
- This Calculator by "Deemoss" on their Thingiverse Page
Dedicated Hardware
- Put a Load Cell somewhere on a FDM Filament Spool Holder
- Thus you could mass the spool, enter what it should be, then it could measure both the length extruded and the lost mass
- Thus you would essentially have two methods of calculating it, and thus be able to accurately measure how much is left
