CNC Machine Dust Control

Basics

• This Page Goes Over Control of Dust (and to a certain degree Metal Chips ) in the context of CNC Machines
• This page covers FDM 3D Printer , but the main concern is for the Subtractive Manufacturing machines due to their dust creating nature

FDM 3D Printers

• As Stated in FDM 3D Printer Maintenance occasional cleaning by wiping should be sufficient
• Unless a setup capable of ASMBL is used in which case the CNC Router/Mill Section of this page applies

CNC Mills and CNC Routers

• Sawdust can be managed via a combination of Vacuum Dust Collection and/or Compressed Air (Although the Rules for Cleaning with Compressed Air should still be followed obviously)
• Also Protective Covers such as Bellows can be used to protect the Leadscrews / Ballscrews and whatever Linear Bearing is used

Explosive Dust Considerations

• At what point should Sawdust etc be viewed as an explosive dust?
• This needs addressing
