Basics
- Every Monday (or for a less aggressive schedule, the first Monday of every month) You Do THOROUGH Preventative Maintenance / “Fluids Checks” / Check Tire Pressure + Tire Condition of all Vehicles + Small Engine Equipment
- To an extent any Oil Fired Heaters could be lumped in with this as well
- Goal is to maintain Readiness / Determine Issues with Equipment BEFORE they are needed/used on a job
- Although Pre-Trip Inspections are still good to do/related
- HOWEVER having a dedicated day allows it to not get missed when people “scramble” in emergencies/are late etc
- An exception could POTENTIALLY be made for Sufficiently Stored / Winterized / Mothballed equipment, in sufficient Storage Conditions (Low Humidity, Mild Temperature (Swings), Low UV, Low Dust, etc), but even then some things such as Tires/Overall Condition may be worth investigating still
Vehicles
- RE Fleet Management , but:
- Check Fluids
- Basic Visual Inspection
- Check Overall “Cleanliness” (ie does it need an Exterior Car Wash and/or Internal (Cabin) Cleaning soon?)
- Check Battery/Voltages
- Check for Automotive Error Codes (Check Engine Light, etc)
- If Relevant, Run Engine for 30 Minutes / Get Oil+Coolant up to temperature
- A Shorter Warmup + Gentle Driving Around is advisable to also get Transmission Fluid Flowing/Up to Temperature
- If Relevant Locking a Differential and checking the functionality of that is also advisable
- Check All Headlights, Strobes, and Turn Signals
Small Engines
- Check Fluids
- Check Condition of Spark Plug (If Relevant)
- Run for 30 Minutes and/or Until Oil (and Coolant, if relevant) are Up to Temperature
- Check Oil Filter and Fuel Filter
- Check Fuel Condition
- Drain and Replace, or Simply Add Used/Evaporated Fuel (Or Fuel + Fuel Stabilizer Mix, If Relevant)
Tires
- Relevant to Vehicles, Small Engine Equipment (Such as Wheeled Generators, Air Compressors, or Pressure Washers, etc) (Also Lawn Mowers , and Snow Blowers )
- Also relevant to things like Wheelbarrows and Drum Dollys etc (which are more easily missed!)
- Main Things Are:
- Visual Inspection of Tire Condition
- In Particular Checking Tire Tread Depth and any missing chunks/cuts
- Tire Pressure Check + Check for Leaks
- Check that Tire Valve Stems are in good condition and/or have the Tire Valve Stems Caps on
- Visual Inspection of Tire Condition
