Constructed the last roof module for the hangar. Marcin requested that we use diagonal compression supports - I cut the supports using Roy's miter saw. Started running air and power lines up to roof with Roy. Gathered OSB to be used in between roof modules with Tom. Finished the day with the last module and additional OSB on the roof!

Spent the majority of the day constructing roof modules and jigs for them. Most of the wood was warped so major effort was needed to force them into straightness. The final module needed to be a different size and thus a different pattern too. Insulation was cut to match. Also learned the basic functions of a skid steer.

Created [[File:Wall_module_8ft.FCStd|8ft, single center stud wall module CAD file]]
Created [[File:Wall_module_8ft.FCStd|8ft, single center stud wall module CAD file]]

I used FreeCAD 1.0.2 with claude's macro script to make the file. I used diagrams.net to make the diagram.
The following is a log of AI usage with a goal of creating the above CAD file. I had no prior experience with CAD before this interaction.

I uploaded the file here and embedded the slide into it. I don't know if you're looking for me to link it anywhere or if I should add a second page just for the instruction slide so I left it at this for now. Added to my work log. https://wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/File:Wall_module_8ft.FCStd
Given the goal was to create an 8ftx4ft single center stud version of the wall module & that I already had in possession a 9ftx4ft double center stud version: I asked both chatgpt free version and claude sonnet 4.5 to make the needed edits to the existing file. Each of these interactions failed. They can be inspected here:

https://claude.ai/share/eb96cbeb-875e-4bb6-b072-9fdd2a832d42

As far as logging the AI usage: are you looking for me to use my work log as a journal? Or link to a new page with the logging? Let me know
I then asked chatgpt to create the 8ftx4ft single center stud version with a detailed prompt unrelated to the old file. It failed to create the file sufficiently (though here I was just asking for a file as opposed to a macro script, so perhaps it would have responded better to a macro script request). You can see this interaction here:

I have a lot of experience using AI and also particularly agentic tools for coding like claude code. However I am a big fan of some open source models coming out of china. You should check them out. One of my favorites is Deepseek. You can run these models entirely locally and adjust/tweak for your own needs & plug into open source tooling like opencode for agentic tasks.
Finally I asked claude sonnet 4.5 to create the 8ftx4ft single center stud version with the same detailed prompt unrelated to the old file. It not only responded with a CAD file but also a macro script. Upon executing the macro script a sufficient wall module was provided. You can see this interaction here:

Created File:Wall module 8ft.FCStd

The following is a log of AI usage with a goal of creating the above CAD file. I had no prior experience with CAD before this interaction.

Given the goal was to create an 8ftx4ft single center stud version of the wall module & that I already had in possession a 9ftx4ft double center stud version: I asked both chatgpt free version and claude sonnet 4.5 to make the needed edits to the existing file. Each of these interactions failed. They can be inspected here: https://chatgpt.com/share/697c2b33-53b0-800b-b0e2-42787f2fadbc https://claude.ai/share/eb96cbeb-875e-4bb6-b072-9fdd2a832d42

I then asked chatgpt to create the 8ftx4ft single center stud version with a detailed prompt unrelated to the old file. It failed to create the file sufficiently (though here I was just asking for a file as opposed to a macro script, so perhaps it would have responded better to a macro script request). You can see this interaction here: https://chatgpt.com/share/697c2b42-1438-800b-96e9-926dfce86792

It not only responded with a CAD file but also a macro script. Upon executing the macro script a sufficient wall module was provided.
