While developing my ideas for this system over the break, I have expanded the idea somewhat. The idea has been to create a system whereby OSE can delegate editing tasks to remote volunteer editors, and devise a method of transferring the material to them with relative simplicity. This will help OSE to generate more instructional videos from the stockpile of material we have accumulated, as well as new material I don't have the time to edit.

Remote Editing System
While developing my ideas for this system over the break, I have expanded the idea somewhat. The idea has been to create a system whereby OSE can delegate editing tasks to remote volunteer editors, and devise a method of transferring the material to them with relative simplicity. This will help OSE to generate more instructional videos from the stockpile of material we have accumulated, as well as new material I don't have the time to edit.
OSE is at the forefront of open source / open source hardware development. OSE also aims to foster the mainstream adoption of the open source development method. This system will therefore be most helpful if it can help all open source projects (OSP's) whom could benefit from the service.
I would like to call this system Open Source Exposure (OSEx).
The need for OSEx can be summed up as follows:

  • Open source projects thrive more effectively with video promotion.
  • Video editors / programs are expensive and OS startups usually don't generate much income.
  • Shooting HD video is now cheap / easy, whereas editing is relatively complex / expensive.
  • There are many young editors looking for ways to practice their skills.
  • Transferring large amounts of footage can be complex / confusing.

  • Badge system - to encourage an editing community to grow and gain 'cudos'.
  • Log system (excel/alternative) - to keep track of what footage has been used where.
  • 'How to edit' document / instructional - to build the skills of new and learning video editors.
  • Indexed, specific projects - to keep the edits focused and efficient.
  • Standards for editors - to ensure if the project is complex, the editor has the ability to fulfill the task.

Considering OSE is at the forefront of open source development, I am expanding this system's goals to inciu
