Filtration techniques separate a specific particle or class of particles from a more heterogeneous mixture. Mostly it is a technique to separate molecules in solution from their solvent based upon differential passage through a semipermeable membrane. A membrane is mounted to separate two subcompartments that accumulate different solutions based upon their permeability. A single membrane separated compartment is known as cell
