Suggestion: rename to GECK. Garden Eden Creation Kit. Easy to pronounce and remember.

Gee-Vee-Cee-Ess isn't that hard to pronouce. While I usually like Biblical references, I don't think it works all that well here. We can't recreate Eden and that image isn't exactly what Marcin is working toward (let me know if I'm wrong).

Second that.  Maybe another acronym might work, but for now GVCS is OK. -Adam
The skills-related explainers are short and distilled skills-training courses on relevant, applied skills, such as design, video production, CAD programs, and any other technical skill.

Here at Open Source Ecology we are turning ‘dirt and sticks’ into advanced civilization by building the necessary tools and technologies to create sustainable and resilient communities around the world.  Utilizing local, low-cost resources we aim to provide a complete set of open-source tools we call the Global Village Construction Set or GVCS.  The GVCS is meant to give a community control of its production in the face of our increasingly uncertain global systems.  In fact, we need not make sacrifices in quality of life to move beyond our destructive industrial systems; all we need is the integration of existing resources in order to close loops and end waste.  Nevertheless, the GVCS is not about generating new technologies, it is about refining existing ones to meet the needs of people rather than corporations.

Open-sourcing the production process has allowed us to quickly develop solutions through online collaboration and support.

By encompassing the production of housing, energy and food the open-source integration of the GVCS will lead to greater self-suffciency and improved quality of life for all. But openness is more than just a process for us, we believe in openness as an ideology of transformation. Imagine the knowledge necessary for sustaining advanced civilization available to everyone, not just a limited technical elite; we could then truly become creators of our own destiny rather than consumers of its ghostly shell.

Requirement

OSE positioning involves creating a developer community by teaching valuable, applied skills. To this end, Explainer Video production is critical - as a route to rapid learning of complex topics. OSE is developing its explainer video production capacity for producing technical, conceptual, and other supporting videos towards the open source economy. The requirement is:

  • Increase OSE capacity to hundreds of high quality explainer and educational videos per year
  • Assess, develop, use, and document useful Explainer Video production tools
  • Network with professional video production companies for assistance in creating explainer videos
  • Collaborate with professional video production training organizations (companies, teaching institutions) on creating a crash curriculum for Explainer Video production
  • To open-source production techniques for blackboard explainers, animations, explainer videos, infographic videos, stop motion, CAD animations, screencasts, pen tablet recordings, and other useful tools for producing rapid-learning video productions.

Topics

There are two main classes of explainer videos: skills-related, and documentation.

The skills-related explainers are short and distilled skills-training courses on relevant, applied skills, such as design, video production, CAD programs, and any other technical skill.

Documentation Explainer Videos are videos based on actual builds or products of OSE - such as building the latest tractor or MicroHouse.

Machine Concept Video

A concept video can be a Khan-Academy style drawing pad recording, and it should include other content.

Full protocol should involve a Video Script that includes:

  1. Basic Description - what is it?
  2. Infographic
  3. Why - why is the machine important in general, and specifically, what value is OSE adding to the design?
  4. OSE Specifications - how does the design meet OSE Specifications
  5. Product Ecologies - describe how this fits in the OSE Product Ecology
  6. Design Concept - concept for the design
  7. Design Rationale - reason for why the machine was designed in the particular way that it was designed
  8. Basic Component Choices - shows some of the key components as a starting point.
  9. 3D animations and renderings - of former or current prototypes
  10. Scale models - simple prototypes from CNC laser cuts.
  11. Requirements - mention a link to the Requirements.
  12. Challenges - discuss main issues that need to be designed.
  13. Status - development status
  14. Get Involved - info about team or how to join development team.

Our Get Involved slide should include:

  1. Design Sprints - what they are; go to Design Sprints to sign up.
  2. Blog link - general updates are on the blog.
  3. Dedicated project visits
