The GVCS will have a need for various kinds of motors and generators.  Ideally, these should be designed to be modular such that when more power is needed, the basic design can be expanded to get what is needed.  Motors and generators are the same: apply electricity to an electric motor and you get rotational force out of it. Apply rotational force to the same device and you get electric power out of it.
