Basics

  • An electrochemical cell that converts the chemical energy of a fuel (often hydrogen) and an oxidizing agent (often oxygen[1]) directly into electricity through a special reactor (or cell...)
  • There are five principle types of fuel cells:
    • Alkaline Fuel Cell (AFC)
    • Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC)
    • Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell (PAFC)
    • Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC)
    • Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC)
