Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, may operate autonomously (say, by onboard computers) or by remote control. Some open source hardware efforts exist (some links below).

Agricultural Drones

Drones are increasing used in agriculture for functions such as information gathering. Many other future possibilities exist (e.g. seeding, "drone sheepdog").
