Basics
- Electrical Adaptors, typically for Computer Cables that don't have that short cable section; they are solid bricks
- Thus that 50 USD or so USB A to USB C Adapter or HDMI to VGA Adapter etc doesn't die in a couple of months or so of use due to that Cable Fraying
- Need to see if they added those short cables for Planned Obsolescence or if they play any sort of Strain Relief role
- Even if a bend is needed, a 90 Degree USB Adapter etc is preferable
- In some cases, cables are still used, but then they are more cheaply repaceable than the "dongle", and also can be High Quality USB Cables rather than whatever the adaptor uses
- No good search term for these yet, so searching online is difficult
- User: Eric is always on the hunt for these, so if you find any options not posted here, please share!
List
Passive Audio Splitters
3.5mm
- VCE 2-Pack 3.5mm Headphone Y Splitter (6.30 USD for 2, so 3.15 for each, comes in a pack of 2 only though) (1 to 2 jack splitter)
- Bairutong 5-Jack Multi Headphone Audio Splitter (17 USD) (Star Shaped One to Five Splitter)
Lightning to 3.5mm Audio
- For anyone still using iPhones:
- Linsoul DD HiFi TC35i 3.5mm Plug Adapter Stereo Converter for iPhone, iPad, iPod (45 USD) (More expensive than some other options, but it's a near indestructible aluminum brick and sounds nice)
USB to 3.5mm Audio Jack
USB-C to 3.5mm Audio
- Linsoul DD TC35B Type-C to 3.5mm Cable Adapter Converter with ALC5686 Decoding Chip 384kHz/32bit for Android (45 USD) (Near Identical to the Lightning one, just USB-C and made for android)
USB-A to 3.5mm Audio
Cheap Options
- JSAUX 2 Pack USB to 3.5mm Jack Audio Adapter (2 Pack for 12USD, 6 Each although no single option)
- Supports mic over headphone cable as well
- Can also get ones with a seperate mic
Sound Snob/High Resistance Headphones/Speaker Option
- AudioQuest DragonFly Black v1.5 Plug-in USB DAC + Preamp + Headphone Amp (80 USD) (Probably quite overpriced for what it does, especially considering the Cubilux option exists, granted checking for reviews / a frequency response graph is the only way to know, but given most people, most of the time will be doing videocalls/listening to (compressed) mp3's it's overkill)
Micro USB to 3.5mm
- Use a Micro USB adapter for one of the other options
HDMI to VGA+Audio
- Pending testing of an amazon option etc as these are Active adapters
