Universal Axis
- See Universal Axis for axis design
- Note: axis motor piece can be cut 1" to allow only a 3 bolt mounting for the stepper. This allows mini printers to be tighter in size.
- Half-carriage piece may be a useful addition.
- Square 6 mm bolt pattern on 3 axes allows for addition axes to be mounted vertically or horizontally. This capability is removed if half-pieces are used.
- All in all, half pieces can be used for the carriage and idler piece, and a 2/3 piece can be used for the motor mount piece
- Nut catchers in end pieces extend the size of those pieces
- If mounting is done on the face of the end pieces (2 of them), then the nut catchers are not necessary,
Geometry
- Using external axis mounting allows for all the axes to be identical in lenght, thereby reducing part count over internal axis mounting design - where X and Y axes (as well as bed rods) would otherwise be of different length
