Basics
- The acetate ester of vinyl alcohol
- Produced industrialy by the reaction of ethylene and acetic acid with oxygen in the presence of a palladium catalyst
{\displaystyle {\ce {2 C2H4 + 2 CH3CO2H + O2 -> 2 CH3CO2CHCH2 + 2 H2O}}}
Used For
- Precursor to Polyvinyl Alchohol (This will be the the moost likely main use due to it's greater simplicity and it's greater use case (dissolvable fdm filament)
- Precursur to other polymers/copolymers such as Polyvinyl Acetate, Ethylene-vinyl acetate, and Polyvinylpyrrolidone which have multitudes of uses
Ecology
- Ethylene from biorefinery
- Acetic Acid from bioreactor(s)
- Oxygen from either of these sources:
- Electolysis Device
- Pressure Swing Absorbtion Device
- Catalyst is a bit rough (Get the pallidium from exhaust catalytic converters?)
