Basics

  • Need to see if the names such as "Rupture Disk" etc are more common and/or official
  • Essentially a mechanically engineered failure point
  • It consists of a pipe fitting(need better word) with anything from metal foil (small vacuum cannons, etc), all the way to meticulously designed sheet metal, that will break in a semi-controlled manner once a pressure is used
  • Due to the destructive/non-reusable manner of them, they are usually not used as the primary saftey measure over a Pressure Relief Valve , but are a simple backup that is nearly impossible to not work
