Function of PLLs

Phase Lock Loops create a feedback loop in a circuit to control the timing of digital clocks or drift of a signals phase. They can help stabilize crystal generated frequencies and give more flexibility in frequency control. Crystals vary with temperature and therefore using a crystal with a comparator and Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) can improve timing control.
