Basics

  • A type of rotory engine
  • Designed by Michigan State University and Warsaw Institute of Technology
  • Has an outer casing and an internal blade on a spindle. The blade has curved fins on it, thus resembling some laptop cooling fans
  • It creates and uses supersonic shock waves to compress and ignite fuel, which then pushes the blades sustaining the motion
  • Lighter and more efficient than piston engines
