Basics

  • Often abbreviated as MTO
  • Olefins can also be called alkenes (double check this, may be similar to rubber vs. elastomer where there is a slight difference) and thus can be abbreviated as MTA
  • A Process whereby Methanol is converted to olefins
  • One of the ways to make petroleum products from biological source materials
  • Can be an integrated step in a Gas to Liquids process as well, but it can work from methanol on it's own as well
