Basics

  • This page aims to outline the industry standards of cameras etc

Stills

  • It depends on what use case
    • Sports Photography / Photojournalism etc prioritizes “Spray and Pray” so how “fast” the sensor is and in the case of DSLR how fast it can flip the mirror
    • Product Photography / Portraits optimizes more for Sensor Size/Quality etc
      • Also POTENTIAL IO if using a Tethering Program / Remote Flash Triggers etc

Video

  • A DSLR in “Mirror Up Mode” or a Mirrorless Camera can be used for Video as well
  • Some cameras don’t have that great of resolution / Frames Per Second etc, but they may have higher ISO and better lens alternatives than the alternative
  • Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras are kind of the middle option
  • Cinema Cameras can be on the lower end something like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
  • The next step up is a Red Dragon or whatever
  • The “creme de la creme” (ALTHOUGH this is fading as Blackmagic/Red etc get better) is Arri-Alexa
