Basics

• Fleet Management is the discipline of keeping track of the status of multiple vehicles used by a company or organization and keeping them in working order
• It also can be approached from an Efficiency Increasing / Profit Increasing Perspective, although care should be taken to not get into Short Term Gains vs Long Term Gains type Cannibalistic Improvements

Components

• Vehicle Maintenance Log + Preventative Vehicle Maintenance
• Fleet Maintenance Request Board
• Long Term Vehicle Storage Protocols
• Routine Vehicle Cleaning Protocol
• Spare Parts Storage / Redundancy

Potential Issues

Paperwork

• On one hand you can have a workflow with no logs/paperwork which would be easiest in theory
• When things gone wrong though, it may be hard to know what went wrong and what was done in the past
• On the other hand doing overly complex paperwork for every step you take is horrible
• Designing the Paperwork with a KISS principle, having most/all of it be done on a Smartphone or Tablet/Computer, and having the computer fill in blacks it can on it’s own so that an operator only needs to check things are good, maybe add some small info, and get signatures and they are good to go

Privacy

• The “latest and greatest” systems have things like constant GPS Tracking, or even not just Dashcams but Driver Facing Cameras using AI to track behavior. Some of these even generate scores based on various things you do (some sensible like not wearing seatbelts etc, some a bit excessive like eating/drinking water etc)
• A compromise would maybe be only outwards facing cameras (Front/Dash, Rear, also maybe sides)
  • Granted these also network with that idea of mine on diy/os Vehicle Camera/Carplay system type thing
• Also GPS based Speeding Monitor and logging but not location logging
• Also maybe making the data only accessible for after incidents (Car Crash, Bumping into something etc)
