Introduction

We are off-grid. We have 1,400w of solar panels installed, which translates to 350w of average continuous power (enough to run 6 60w light bulbs or 4 laptops at 90w each). Because we also run lights, a refrigerator, and shop tools - this means that we end up using a 1kW generator, so th*e more power we use, the longer the generator has to run.

For example:

  • If someone uses their laptop to play music - that costs us $1 per day and $30 per month of that person is doing that 12 hours per day. Imagine if 10 people were to do that - we have just blown $300 per month - compared to maybe $3 per month if the person used an MP3 player instead.
