Core Values

Communication

Effective communication is integral for maintaining healthy and safe community dynamics at FeF. We encourage honesty, transparency, compassion, and openness in order to foster the a healthy community environment.

Some strategies employed at FeF include:

  • Non-violent communication
  • Conflict Mediation and Resolution
  • Consensus Decision Making
  • Process Dialogue
  • Structured, planned events designed to facilitate discussion and bring the community closer
    • Dinner Seminars - a community member brings a topic of discussion and gives a seminar on the subject, usually at the dinner table during a meal.
    • House Meetings - a weekly meeting run by consensus or informal group dialogue
    • Recreational Events - book clubs, reading aloud, movie nights, game nights
    • Fireside Chats - planned meetings creating a forum for open discussion of personal or emotional topics

Work Ethic

We all work varying schedules, in different fields, and have a high standard for work ethic in ourselves. There is trust that people come here with a shared goal - to be Open Source Ecologists. Community members are requested to be self-motivated, openly collaborative, and honest with their needs such that they can work effectively within the community.

Food

People employ many dietary strategies to increase their wellbeing. At FeF, we have observed the following eating patterns being employed. We support anyone's dietary inclinations and needs, and seek to accommodate each other's needs in a shared kitchen. We eat together, cook communal meals, but also keep personal foods.
