I think in 1 month - it's reasonable to attain a test joint proof of cocept. Such as - ~1m length with repeatability of ~3 millirad - or 2mm repeatability over a meter radius arc which would be plenty sufficient for welding. Using a $300 hydraulic motor with direct drive, we would have 500 lb of force at that meter distance. If we could achieve that in one month, that would be major success. Parts cost would be under $1k at this level if we use off-shelf cold rolled steel for the flat surfaces, which we could test for how far that gets us in the first pass. So first test could be if zero-machined, off-shelf materials can get us to this ~3millirad at 1 m with 500lb force.
